Teaching description

Basic methodological competencens in the field of social research

Aim of the course is to introduce the students into qualitative methods. After illustrating the theoretical background of qualitative methods and their peculiarities and relevance as appropriate instruments to understand social reality, operative skills and competences will be given to the students, who will be guided in the ideation and realization of a research project by adopting qualitative methods. Specific relevance will be given to narratives as instruments of social analysis.

 

Awareness of the theoretical debate legitimating qualitative research methods. Being able to define a qualitative research design; being able to use different qualitative techniques; being able to analyze set of qualitative data.

 

Frontal lessons combined with practical activities related to the construction of a research design, the use of specific qualitative research techniques, analysis and comment of qualitative data.
