Temi di ricerca

1) Messa a punto di nuove metodologie sintetiche per prodotti eterociclici di chiaro interesse Biologico , Farmaceutico e nuovi  Materiali per celle solari

Ossaziridine, aziridine, beta-lattami, gamma delta e epsilon lattoni e lattami, ossazoline, ossazolidine, ossadiazoline ossadiazolidine, ossirani e numerosi altri eterocicli sono stati ottenuti con nuove metodologie sintetiche messe a punto nel Laboratorio di Chimica Organica di Lecce di cui sono responsabile.

Le oxaziridine condenzate ad altri cicli ( ottenute a partire da Amminoacidi naturali e di sintesi) si sono rilevate ottimi precursori per la sintesi di C-Nitroso composti, il cui utilizzo nel campo farmacologico potrebbe essere quello di fornitore di ossido nitrico. ( vedi utilizzo di arginina per lo stesso scopo)

 i beta-lattami da noi preparati hanno mostrato una chiara attività batteriologica, con test fatti in vitro e in vivo,

le aziridine e vari tipi di lattoni e lattami presentano una potenziale attività per la cura di malattie delle piante. La Bayer-  crop-science chiede spesso questo tipo di substrati per i loro test.

Sono stati sintetizzati inoltre farmaci di elevata potenziale applicabilità per la cura di malattie mnemodegenerative ( 1,2,3-benzotiadiazinici-1,1diossido) modulatori allosterici del ricettore AMPA, con relativo brevetto.

2) Estrazione di principi attivi da piante: Oleuropeina dalle foglie d'ulivo, Artemisina dall'artemisia, Antocianine da piante e frutti, Flavonoidi e fenoli vari dall'Azadiracta-indica

3) Sintesi di Porfirine e derivati Porfirine-Ffullerene per la formazione di sensori.
